CARL OUR HOUSE MASCOT

These are some of our rescue turtles in rehabilitation. Carl is a western ornate which was fed a dog food diet with no supplements or calcium so his shell and beak didn't grow correctly. Now he is on a great diet and doing so much better. After being hand fed for a year he has now learned to eat crickets, worms are his next trick we hope.

Carl six months later

This is a picture of Carl six months after we were able to give him a great diet. His mouth is almost back together and he gained over 30grams this year. This picture was taken a day before he went into hibernation.

EMMIE THREE LEGS

Emmie is a amazing story on the 4th of July 2009 she was hit by a car or truck on I-75. She had pulled herself off the road with a lung and her beating heart out of the broken shell. When I found her she was in really bad shape with her shell in many pieces and the lower and upper sections torn apart. also her front left leg smashed and mostly torn off. I worked to clean her up and put her organs and shell back in place. After hours she was back together yet not in very good shape. After two days she had a eye open and was knowledgeable of her surroundings, so off to the vet for the leg amputation. As of March 3 2010 she is in Mini hibernation periods and has gained weight and eating very well when she was awake.

 Chippette

Chippette started with us after being hit by a car and losing a half inch of the front of her shell. After cleaning her up and fitting her front feet and face she has recovered well. This is a picture of her digging a nest for her eggs just two weeks after her accident.

Lower Wading Pond

This is a picture of the lower wading pond with good cover plants. This pond was built near two of the log piles and the hibernation leaf piles. We wanted easy access so they can even get water on the nice winter days when some have emerged.

Sarah

Sarah is a great old turtle sent to us from Colorado she had shell rot and flaking problems.
Most of this is due to Sarah loves to sit in her wading pond or very moist areas.
She has the best personality and loves to eat most anything you give her.

Whistlepig

Here is Whistlepig just after we received her in 2006, Her beak is very over grown
it can be trimmed by a vet or wear down from feeding on a rough stone in her habitat.
